A stage 22 square meters long and ten meters wide located on Camino Antiguo Calvario, is the space chosen to represent tomorrow one of the most participatory acts of the religious programming of the Holy Week of Santa Ursula: the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus. Its large dimensions have forced the public capacity to be reduced by almost half, 550 people, and it is necessary to have an invitation that can be picked up at the offices of the Culture area from 09:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and at La Casona Espacio Cultural from 4:00 p.m. 20.00.
More than one hundred neighbors of the location are involved in this show, which will begin at 9:00 p.m. and in this edition, the twelfth, will feature its own live soundtrack for the first time, which will be in charge of the Ernesto Beteta music association.
It was in 2008 when this adventure began for a large group of citizens that has been growing and changing over the years. In its beginnings, the representation was limited to the way of the cross, from the church to El Calvario and took place at six in the morning. Over the years, it was decided to shorten the route but with more stages until in 2019 it was moved to the center of San Luis. In 2020, when they began with the preparations, they decided to create the cultural association La Pasión, dedicated to organizing this event with the collaboration of the City Council and the parish. But it is this year when they will see the fruit of their work in situ given that in 2020 and 2021 the pandemic prevented it.
In this edition the representation covers 13 episodes, from Christ’s entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper and the betrayal, through the council of elders, Peter’s denials or Pilate’s interrogation, to the arrest, crucifixion and resurrection. , among others.
The members of the association were not even sure if it could be done this year or not. But far from sitting idly by, they got to work, publicizing the event on the municipal social networks, inviting neighbors to participate, and they got more than a hundred people of all ages.
Since then, they have not stopped rehearsing, making the costumes, getting the props and making the various preparations so that the staging is a complete success.
There are nerves, a lot of desire and above all passion, “because it is a work carried out by people from the town, there is no professional among the participants, and it is a pride for the Santaursuleros to say that we have this representation”, underlines the president of the association Sarah Rodriguez.
