During a press briefing on Wednesday, the president of Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, mentioned that the possibility of creating a ‘Tenerife Arena’, a large sports and event complex, on the site of the former Refinery, has not been dismissed.
The process of “dismantling and decontamination” is currently underway in the area and is expected to be completed by autumn.
Furthermore, the president stated that the government body has a “forward-thinking vision and determination” to ensure that Tenerife has a well-maintained and fully renovated football stadium in preparation for the centenary of the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium.
Rosa Dávila rejected claims of a lack of “determination” within the Cabildo (despite over 100 million euros being invested in the stadium expansion in Gran Canaria) and outlined ongoing initiatives at the Santiago Martín arena.
An estimated investment of around two million euros is planned for the refurbishment of bathrooms, locker rooms, and seating, as well as the development of a comprehensive renovation plan for the stadium in the future.
