The City Council of La Orotava hosts this year three new courses of University Extension of the University of La Laguna (ULL). The training, which has the collaboration of the Employment and Local Development Agency of the City Council, directed by Deisy Ramos, will take place during the months of September, October and November. The courses, with limited places and a duration of three days each, are aimed at the residents of the municipality.
Natural disasters of geological origin (volcanic eruptions and earthquakes): risks, prediction, prevention and mitigation is the first course to be taught this year. It will take place in the plenary hall of the Town Hall on September 20, 21 and 22. The general approach consists of offering basic and general knowledge about natural catastrophes of geological origin, as well as the appropriate prediction, forecast, risk and prevention measures in each case. The course, which is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate university students, professionals related to seismic and volcanic risk, and the general population, will be led by Ramón Casillas, professor of Petrology and Geochemistry at the ULL.
The Francisco Álvarez Abrante Auditorium, in La Perdoma, will host the other two training proposals. The second, under the title Renewable energies in the Canary Islands: Profitability and self-consumption, will take place between October 25 and 27. With this course, coordinated by Benjamín González, full professor of the Department of Industrial Engineering at the ULL, the aim is to provide the student with the technical and legal bases for carrying out self-consumption installations and analyze the profitability of the installation.
The third will be Drones: regulations and applications, which will take place between November 8 and 10. Its objectives are to provide basic knowledge about the use of these devices. All courses will be held in the afternoon from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and have a limited number of places.
