Coalition of Canaries in Puerto de la Cruz is pointing out that the municipality has been left without blue flags “due to the incompetence of the PSOE mayor, Marco González, whose disastrous management means we do not have beaches that are dignified, accessible, and with sanitary and environmental quality.”.
Coalition of Canaries spokesperson in the municipality, Alonso Acevedo, points out that Canary Islands have obtained a total of 60 awards from the Blue Flag programme, a recognition that distinguishes these beaches as spaces with sanitary and environmental quality, “something Puerto de la Cruz falls short on, as it has not obtained a single one.” The nationalist councilor adds that if we take a stroll along the coast of Puerto de la Cruz and its surroundings, we can see the lack of quality in the environment, not to mention the lack of accessibility in several areas.” The clearest example, according to Alonso, is the “evident danger of Martiánez Beach.”
“It means condemning people with reduced mobility and denying them the right to enjoy something that belongs to everyone because that is not a beach, it’s a rocky area,” denounced the spokesperson for the nationalist residents of Puerto de la Cruz.

“The blue flag is not only a recognition of the quality of our beaches but also a commitment to the environment and sustainable tourism,” explained Alonso Acevedo, therefore, he demanded that the local Government of PSOE and ACP “get to work to regain this recognition for the municipality of Puerto de la Cruz.”
