The council ends the sanitation and rainwater network in La Hoya and other points in the municipality of Güímar, with an investment worth 1,380,000 euros. This action is included in the Municipal Cooperation Plan 2018-2021, financed 90% by the Island Corporation and 10% (138,000 euros) by the Güímar City Council.
The island councilor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing, Zebenzuí Chinea, who officially handed over the works, was satisfied with the results of the work and assured that these actions “solve the area’s deficiencies” in this matter “and improve the quality of life and well-being 500 neighbors».
The project carried out consisted of the installation of the sanitation network interior in the neighborhood of La Hoya and the transport collector for its connection to the general sanitation system of Güímar. Specifically, the works carried out benefited the population of La Hoya street and square, La Paloma road, the Laureano González Rosa pedestrian alley and La Raya street.
Another aspect highlighted by the island councilor refers to the fact that the work was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Island Hydrological Plan. Therefore, they included the installation of the rainwater pipes, which will collect rainwater at the low points of La Raya street and Laureano González Rosa alley, which lacked this network and poured their flows into the Chiñico ravine. In this context, they replaced the rainwater catchment grilles around Plaza de la Hoya.
In this case, we also proceeded to repaving the roads and renovating the water supply network in the streets of the urban nucleus, through a ductile iron pipe of 100 millimeters in diameter, “given the poor state of the installation that was in use”. In addition, the expansion of the sanitation network was carried out on República Dominicana street, in Fátima.
The insular head of Municipal Cooperation and Housing apologized to the neighbors for the inconvenience caused during the development of the works. However, he emphasized the benefits they bring to the public and recalled that their implementation is the result of the reinforcement of the collaboration that the council maintains with all the municipalities of the Island.
The mayor of Güímar, Gustavo Pérez, remarked that it is an intervention “necessary for the neighborhood of La Hoya and for its people. A historic nucleus in the municipality that, from now on, will have a updated sanitation and of considerable improvements in its sidewalks and roads”, he pointed out. The councilor from Guimaraes also highlighted the investment in sanitation made in República Dominicana street, “in a section that comes to give way to pipes from various streets, providing better services to its neighbors.”
