The Cabildo de Tenerife will implement a public network of charging points for electric vehicles throughout the island made up of 16 points that will be located in the municipalities of Arico, El Rosario, El Sauzal, Garachico, Granadilla de Abona, Guía de Isora, La Orotava , Puerto de la Cruz, San Juan de la Rambla, Santiago del Teide, two in Adeje, two in San Cristóbal de La Laguna and two in Santa Cruz.
The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, explained that this project will cost more than two million euros, of which slightly more than one million will be subsidized by the incentive program linked to electric mobility MOVES III of the Plan for Recovery, Transformation and Resilience (Next Generation EU Funds).
“The granting of Next Generation funds for the implementation of this Cabildo program for the implementation of this network will allow the transition towards this model based on renewable and clean energy, as well as the improvement of energy efficiency,” indicated the president.
In addition, Pedro Martín pointed out that “the distribution throughout the insular geography of this network of charging points will complement other private stations, and even other points such as those of Iter, which have already offered this service for a long time”, and He added that “in the island’s decarbonization process to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reach climate neutrality by 2040, the implementation of this network is a very important step and thanks to these funds Next Generation will be able to run with all the guarantees.
The Island Councilor for Sustainable Development, Javier Rodríguez Medina, pointed out that “the locations that have been proposed have been selected trying to optimize criteria such as public land ownership, road accessibility and visibility, pedestrian accessibility, comfort and safety, availability of electricity supply, proximity to services of the tertiary sector and of tourist interest, supply to remote areas and interurban zones, support for ascent routes to the highest altitude areas of the island, complementation with existing recharging networks, as well as ease of maintenance”, and reiterated that “all these factors have been studied in detail to draw up and plan an effective network that covers the entire island geography.”
The charging points will have connectors compatible with most vehicle models on the market.
