All the political formations with representation in the plenary session of the Tacoronte City Council have given their unanimous support to the second phase of the San Jerónimo square rehabilitation project, an area that collapsed two years ago due to structural problems and that has already with a first action, which consisted of the replacement of the affected section that runs over the bed of the ravine that bears the same name as this Tacorontero neighborhood.
The plenary agreement represents “the expected boost to this action,” said the mayor, José Daniel Díaz, who stated that he hoped that the final result of this historical environment “compensates for the delay it has suffered, on the one hand due to the inconveniences of the pandemic and, on the other, because of the complex reality that always surrounds projects in which various administrations are involved».
The scope of action of this project covers an area of 1,806 square meters, incorporating the road around the perimeter of the square and changing the space of the old construction for a more open surface, “giving the pedestrian priority in the new free space and visual permeability to the whole, creating in the environment a finish according to a historical space, which is part of the founding complex of the municipality».
José Daniel Díaz Armas also pointed out that “more useful public space will be gained, which will be enjoyed by its neighbors, also incorporating more garden areas throughout the square and the children’s playground area will be replaced.” In addition, he said that “an interaction of the square, the road and the pre-existing court will be formed, something that will be possible thanks to the lowering of the walls of these spaces, favoring a significant reduction in visual obstacles, since the entire environment runs through of a single space.
The Mayor of Tacorontero added that it is the intention of the Municipal Corporation in this phase of the action to have the participation of the neighborhood, “with the commitment made to hold a meeting to present the approved project, which will be held between the end of this month and early September, and that will allow some modifications to be made in terms of finishes, materials or other issues that can be transformed, once the technical solutions have been given according to current legislation in relation to aspects such as accessibility or circulation. Díaz indicated that the budget for this action amounts to 497,858 euros, to which must be added the costs of the demolition and execution of the forging already carried out, which “represents that more than 700,000 euros have been invested in San Jerónimo, with the intention that the neighborhood recovers the spirit it had 200 years ago».
