The mayor of Tacoronte, José Daniel Díaz (NC), announces that his government group (formed by NC, PSOE and Yes It Can) plans to improve in 2022 the municipal kennel management, with a contribution that will be around 25,000 euros, and that will solve the problem of the debts that the Dogcan collective has accumulated in the purchase of feed to feed abandoned or lost dogs in the municipality during 2021.
Díaz thus responds to the harsh criticism of his former government associate, the non-attached mayor Sandra Ramos, who maintains that “the continuity of the administration of the Tacoronte municipal kennel It is in danger due to the abandonment and deception suffered by its managers by José Daniel Díaz and Antonio Gil, mayor of Health ».
Sandra Ramos echoed the “desperate appeal” she made through the social network Facebook the Dogcan entity, at the end of December, when he denounced that he had been able to face the feeding the animals who have been welcomed into the shelter “thanks to the willingness of a company in the municipality” that had provided facilities, but due to the total amount of the debt it could no longer continue to supply the feed with which they fed the 47 animals that live in the municipal kennel facilities.
José Daniel Díaz considers that the start-up of the municipal shelter, “which had been closed for almost six years,” had to be precipitated by the closure of the Tierra Blanca shelter by the Council, at the beginning of 2021. «With that entity we had an agreement to solve the problem of abandoned animals and that forced us to start hastily. However, despite everything, in all these months the kennel has worked well ”, he values.
To ensure its proper functioning, the tacorontero government advocates including in the 2022 local budget a game of about 25,000 euros so that Dogcan can attend the service with more guarantees. Meanwhile, José Antonio Gil has contacted the feed company to resolve the problem of the debts incurred in relation to food.
For José Daniel Díaz, the kennel service has been “exemplary” during 2021, “despite the fact that it had to start from scratch, after the closure decreed by the previous Government.” And it highlights actions such as the reception of “a significant number of animals affected by the volcanic eruption on the island of La Palma”, as well as the work of the volunteers who collaborate with their maintenance. Despite criticism, the mayor applauds the management of the Dogcan collective and ensures that “there will be no shortage or food problems. The animals are well cared for and fed and we have a contract with a veterinary clinic to cover their needs.
Sandra Ramos has been interested in the management carried out in this service and understands that «it is important to attend to the situation in which the abandoned animals in our municipality in an efficient way and with guarantees ». In his opinion, “the necessary continuity and stability have not been given to this municipal competence since it stopped being provided by the protector Apram many years ago.”
