SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Deputy Minister of the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands, Antonio Olivera, affirmed this Thursday that the new aid for La Palma announced by the president of the Central Executive, Pedro Sánchez, confirms the “commitment” of the State to those affected by the volcanic eruption of Cumbre Old.

In a press conference to give an account of the Governing Council agreements, he stressed that housing aid doubles, going from 30,000 to 60,000 euros, a tourism recovery plan is promoted with 17.5 million euros and aid to the primary sector rise by 12 million more.

“The Government’s commitment to La Palma has been contrasted, identifying shortcomings and areas in which to act,” he stressed.

Olivera has also reported that the single registry of those affected has already received 3,555 applications, of which 3,391 are processed, 95%, and of them, 1,391 already signed, which represents 41% and a “notable increase” this week.

Of the total affected, 2,130 had damage to housing (62.8%), 1,367 to household goods (40.3%), 1,143 to the primary sector and 271 to industrial establishments or services.

On the cessation of activity of the volcano, he has commented that “there are very good prospects” although “it cannot be concluded” until approximately December 25.

In any case, he said that “it would be very good news” for him to finish to start working “in another way” and for the evacuated people to be able to return to their homes and thus work on reconstruction.
