The City Council, through Aqualia, this year carries out multiple works aimed at improving supply networks, putting a special focus on reducing losses to achieve a more sustainable use of the resource. The Candelaria mayor, Mari Brito (PSOE), highlights the “close collaboration” between the Candelaria City Council and Aqualia, which has made it possible to invest in the municipality more than 800,000 euros this year. Thus, the total renovation of the general supply network of Camino Las Haciendas and Camino La Punta in Araya is currently being carried out, which represents an investment of 515,255 euros.
With respect to the actions that are being carried out in Araya, the head of Aqualia’s service in Candelaria, Moisés García, adds that the arterial network that connects the Araya and La Tejinera deposits, which in turn also supplies the residents of Las Haciendas Road, La Florida, La Punta Road and the streets surrounding these roads. It is an action that became mandatory because the network, which is more than 40 years old, has many breakdowns and with it, constant water losses.
The Councilor for Works and Services, Jorge Baute, points out that this work is aimed at guaranteeing the water supply of the residents of Araya and the area covered by the La Tejinera reservoir, a municipality that has seen a notable increase in population in recent years. , and with it the demand for water consumption. In addition, the supply network of several roads in the municipality has been renewed with an investment of 116,000 euros. These roads are: Guanches Virgen de Candelaria, El Madroño, Acebiño, Barranquillo Hondo and Camino el Encajonado. Previously, a new reinforcement network for drinking water supply from the lower part of Vence Street and the Candelaria Cemetery area from the general network of the Cuevecitas warehouse that runs along El Balo Street, for an amount greater than 99,000 euros.
On the other hand, last October, an improvement action was carried out in the sanitation network of Avenida Marítima at the intersection with Neptuno and La Palmera streets, executing a new manhole to install a connection collector, in such a way that the networks that ran under both streets were connected, providing them with greater evacuation capacity, in anticipation of the winter period, before the rains.
