The Governing Board of the Santa Cruz City Council approved in its session yesterday to declare the emergency of the processing of the contract for the insurance works of the Villasegura building, as well as how many actions are necessary to eliminate the risk of the last floor of the aforementioned property , object at this time of his rehabilitation. On the other hand, the green light was also given to initiate the budget modification file to process this emergency procedure, so in the face of this new situation, this agreement will be notified to the Historical Heritage Service of the Island Council of Tenerife, to the Menéndez Pelayo University and to the University of La Laguna, so that the terms of this agreement approved yesterday by the Governing Board are taken into account, in order to guarantee the safety of the users of these facilities assigned by the Santa Cruz City Council.
For this reason, given the poor state of conservation of the structural elements on the top floor, derived from the constant leaks through the roof of the building and, in view of the upcoming change of season and the arrival of the rainy season that would increase the risk of collapse of the construction elements of the roof, which would pose a serious danger to the users of the building and to preserve the safety of its lower floors, the aforementioned technical report urges the immediate adoption of some measures.
Among them, it stands out to lower the third floor transmitting the loads to the foundation and to provisionally improve the waterproofing system of the existing roof to avoid the continuous current leaks. All these measures will be provisional until the integral rehabilitation of the building is carried out and will entail its corresponding maintenance.
Finally, proceed to demolish the building’s remount, with prior authorization from the Island Council, added at the end of the last century, which distorts the general image of the BIC and represents a discordant addition, which is why its demolition is convenient, and finally it will proceed to waterproof the slab of the second floor and the drainage of rainwater will be temporarily redirected through the existing sanitation system.
Just a few months ago, the intervention that was carried out on the perimeter wall of the building was completed, which forced the sidewalk to be closed while the works were being carried out. The works involved an investment of 300,000 euros, and were carried out respecting the original building. The intention was to begin the comprehensive remodeling in 2022, with which the Santa Cruz City Council intended to restore the splendor of this property. The investment in this comprehensive rehabilitation, according to the City Council’s calculations, would cost about three million euros. The idea of the City Council was to draft the project throughout this year, which will now be conditioned.
