Santa Cruz offers its support to recover the Igueste Traffic Light

After the news advanced by DIARIO DE AVISOS of the start of the procedures for the Ministry of Finance to transfer ownership of the Igueste Traffic Light to the Government of the Canary Islands, the Plenary of the Santa Cruz City Council that, yesterday, debated two motions on this matter, agreed make itself available to the Government of the Canary Islands for whatever it may need in the process to recover a property so important to the history of the city. The groups supported the proposal to urge the regional Executive to tender as soon as possible the work that allows to rehabilitate this space that is more than a century old.

The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, criticized that the State had decided to put the property up for auction without first consulting with the Canarian administrations, even so, he preferred to see the positive side of the matter, and that it is none other than the suspension of this auction, and the start of the procedures for the transfer of the property to the Government of the Canary Islands.

And it is that, as confirmed by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Canarian Executive to this newspaper, the procedures for the transfer of the property have already begun, as well as the review of the project that was commissioned in 2019 to the architect Carlos Pallés, and that would convert the space in a
