SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands has launched a telephone service called Covid Tourism Managers (GCT), which offers constant support to visitors who test positive during their stay in a regulated tourist establishment in the archipelago.
As explained by the area councilor, Yaiza Castilla, “with this service we intend to facilitate the coverage process for tourists who are infected during the extension of their stay caused by said contingency, minimizing language barriers and offering close support and treatment in everything moment”.
Yaiza Castilla stressed that this new tool, which is added to the travel assistance policy that covers the quarantine of tourists on the islands, “is a very relevant step in the work carried out by the Ministry to improve the health security of the destination” .
A team of people has been managing for two weeks the cases of positive tourists who enter through the Coronavirus Assistance Line (900 112 061 from national phones or +34 922 842 279 / +34 928 846 579 from foreign phones). “We guarantee that the visitor feels accompanied during the isolation process to which they must undergo and we offer them in an accessible way all the resources that the destination puts at their disposal to face this contingency”, explains the managing director of Promotur Turismo de Islas Canarias, José Juan Lorenzo.
The managers will be in charge of referring tourists to the travel insurance they have contracted or to the AXA policy contracted by the Government, provided that the established requirements are met. “Once these visitors are housed to comply with the quarantine, the managers will maintain contact with them until the end of the isolation in order to make them feel accompanied at all times,” said Lorenzo. Canary Islands Tourism will coordinate with the General Directorate of Public Health in the event that it is necessary to ensure compliance with health protocols.
The service, which was launched on August 30, is managed by Promotur’s technological partner, Atos Consulting Canarias. This telephone support line is operational from Monday to Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and is carried out by a team of people located on the islands who serve tourists in four languages: Spanish, English, French and German.
