The excess of fluoride affects again the tap water of half of La Guancha

This new restriction affects practically half of the 5,540 inhabitants of La Guancha, specifically to residents in the centers of El Convento, Las Montañetas, Las Crucitas, Llano de Méndez, Las Sorribas, Las Longueras, Las Cucharas, Hoya de Pablos, Santo Domingo and El Pinalete. In these areas the prohibition is for all ages.

Since last February the prohibition for children under eight years of age has been maintained

The mayor of La Guancha, Antonio Hernández (PP), decreed the restriction on consumption in accordance with the indications of the General Directorate of Public Health. The local government insists that this new temporary restriction is due to a fault outside the City Council, which left the Cruz de Tarifes EDAS “blocked for several hours.” This closure affected the Montefrío and El Pinalete reservoirs, “with an extreme drop in their treated water levels.” The extraordinary injection of raw water to avoid general interruption of service caused an increase in fluoride levels, which stand at 4.2 and 4.3 milligrams per liter, when the maximum allowed for those over 8 years of age is 1.5 milligrams per liter. The mayor hopes that “over the next few days, and after the relevant control samples, the optimal levels of fluoride will be recovered and the restriction in force will be suspended.”
