The Department of Sustainable Mobility of the City of La Laguna, led by María José Roca, launches Approach and Pedal, a project aimed at all people who want to learn to ride a bicycle in an easy, fast and fun way, but also to those who want to improve their bike skills and ride in urban environments safely. Based on last year’s experience in the European Mobility Week (SEM), this year it has been agreed to extend the initiative to all corners of the town and for a period of four months, with 16 theoretical-practical workshops that are added to the strategy of this municipality, integrated in the Network of Cities for Bicycle, to promote the use of bicycles and new models of sustainable mobility.
The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility, Commerce and Tourism, María José Roca, highlights that “La Laguna has one of the most suitable orographies on the Island for the use of bicycles, a comfortable, healthy and environmentally friendly means of travel. and this road safety education project is a very important contribution to the new mobility model that we are developing in La Laguna, a way of understanding travel that encourages and configures a model of a city that is more friendly to its neighbors ”.
Roca explains that this project “will allow us to offer nearby learning spaces about the use of bicycles in an autonomous, safe and responsible way; promote healthy and safe habits and continue moving towards greater sustainability in travel, reducing road traffic, pollution and noise for the benefit of pedestrians, bicycles and personal mobility vehicles ”. In addition, the collaboration of the Insular Area of Roads, Mobility, Innovation and Culture of the Cabildo de Tenerife, which provides the necessary bicycles for the project, stands out. The workshops will begin within the framework of the SEM, on September 17, and will end before Christmas.
