Madrid/Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2 Feb. (Europa Press) –

The Canary Islands are set to experience stable temperatures and partially cloudy skies on Monday, with a possibility of light showers in the north of the more mountainous islands, which may intensify locally during midday and later in the afternoon, primarily in Gran Canaria, as reported by the State Meteorology Agency (Aemet).

Temperatures are expected to vary from 22 degrees in Tenerife to a minimum of 12 in El Hierro. Additionally, moderate winds are anticipated, with strong intervals on the southeast and northwest slopes, and during the early hours in elevated regions of Gran Canaria and La Gomera.

Rising Maximum Temperatures in the Balearic Islands and Northern Peninsula

In the remainder of the nation, maximum temperatures will generally rise in the Balearic Islands and the northern part of the peninsula, with noticeable increases expected in Girona, where temperatures can reach 19 degrees, while a decline is forecast for the southeast and Alborán, where unstable conditions will result in rainfall.

Regarding minimum temperatures, increases are forecasted in the Balearic Islands and the central and eastern peninsula, while decreases will be predominant in the western third, with the Canary Islands remaining stable, according to Aemet. Frosts are expected to lessen in intensity, although they will continue to impact mountainous regions of the northern half and the southeast of the peninsula, as well as the northern plateau and, more sporadically, the eastern part of the south.

Instability is anticipated in the Strait, Alborán, and the southern third of the country, along with cloudiness and rain occasionally accompanied by storms that may be locally intense along some coastal areas. Other regions in the southeast quadrant might also be affected, potentially extending to the central system and southern Balearic Islands, generally diminishing throughout the day.

In the rest of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, an anticyclonic scenario is expected to settle, even with significant cloud cover initially that might produce some light rain in the Cantabrian region, trending towards clearer conditions.

Snowfall is forecasted in the Sierras of the Southeast at altitudes around 1,300/1,400 meters, with considerable accumulations possible. In the Canary Islands, predominantly cloudy conditions are anticipated, with rain in the northern mountainous islands, and the occurrence of mists and morning fog in the northeastern depressions and northern plateau cannot be excluded.

Moreover, winds from the north and west are expected to dominate in the Balearic Islands and the northeastern part of the peninsula, while the east will prevail elsewhere. In Alborán, the winds will intensify. Generally, light winds are anticipated inland, with moderate strengths along coastal areas, alongside possible strong Levante in Alborán and Tramontana in the Balearic Islands and Ampurdán, while in the Canary Islands, the Alisio will continue with strong intervals in exposed regions.
