A canoe arrived in El Hierro on Monday afternoon carrying approximately 70 migrants, marking the second vessel of the day to reach the island and the fifth across the entire archipelago, according to sources from Maritime Rescue.
The boat was identified by the Civil Guard about ten nautical miles south of the island, prompting the deployment of the Salvamar Acrux, the LS Mike 02 from the Red Cross, and the Río Segura patrol boat from the Civil Guard to assist.
After confirming that the canoe was seaworthy, the Salvamar Acrux escorted it into the port of La Restinga for a safe arrival.
This incident marks the fifth boat to dock on Monday among the islands of Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, and El Hierro, with over 360 individuals onboard, including an infant who was born during the voyage from the African coast to Lanzarote.
