The ULL maintains the teaching activity of Miguel Cabrera Pérez-Camacho

The judge of the Court of Instruction number 3 of La Laguna has summoned the well-known lawyer and university professor to testify as under investigation on the 28th of this month for the aforementioned matter. The complainant in the case, who is pursuing a master’s degree in Law and Prosecution, communicated his complaint to the University of La Laguna approximately two weeks ago. And, so far, the first steps have already been taken in the internal investigation being carried out on said episode, as explained by the academic entity.

The University of La Laguna clarifies that they are not going to make statements about this episode, among other things because the judicial process has already begun and the parties involved must be respected, as well as the presumption of innocence of the professor.

The alleged touching, as stated in the complaint filed at the main post of the Tacoronte Civil Guardoccurred in the home of the lawyer and university professor, when the young man went to sign the agreement to carry out the internship in Pérez-Camacho’s office.

In this matter, precautionary measures have not been applied “because it was not necessary,” according to the Press Office of the University of La Laguna. The reason is that the student did not get to do internships at the office of Cabrera Pérez-Camacho. In fact, he was assigned to a different law firm to complete that process of his training.

That is to say, the agreement was signed, but, after filing a complaint with the Armed Institute, the young man never made it effective. And, for now, the accused lawyer and professor continues with his teaching activity normally, the academic institution clarifies.

When a fact of these characteristics is brought to the attention of the University of La Laguna and the protocol is activated, the institution appoints an instructor, who is usually a person linked to the world of Law. This figure is responsible for analyzing the circumstances that occurred and speaking with the parties involved, among other things.

Possible measures

Depending on certain factors, some precautionary measures may be applied. For example, if harassment has existed between coworkers, actions are taken so that their workday does not coincide. Or, in the case of a teacher and a student, an attempt is made to ensure that the latter does not go to the former’s classes, they point out from the ULL.

And, meanwhile, the procedure continues. One of the possibilities is that the procedure ends without the instructor detecting any harassment. Another option may be that the person in charge of the procedure appreciates that “there was something”, but that it does not amount to a crime. In these situations, an administrative sanction is applied in the academic entity, such as a suspension of employment and salary, for example.

And, in the hypothetical case that the instructor appreciates that there could be a crime in the events reported to the ULLthen the matter is communicated to the Prosecutor’s Office, as explained by the Tenerife public university.

However, in this case, the complaint has already reached the Investigative Court number 3 of the La Laguna district, which opened preliminary proceedings in this regard.

The lawyer’s version

During yesterday morning, The lawyer, professor and president of the Real Casino de Tenerife sent a statement to the members of said institution in which he states that: “an unscrupulous lawyer, whom I had to kick out of my office not long ago, has managed – in his desire for revenge – to manipulate an unsuspecting person into stating that I carry out sexual assaults.”

Pérez-Camacho indicates in said document that «I have never done such things in my life. “I’m not going to do it now at 69 years old, in which I dedicate myself to my job, the Casino and my four grandchildren.” According to the lawyer, ““With such defamation the intention is to get money and, in the process, tarnish my image as president of the Casino.” Pérez-Camacho adds that “you will understand that, consequently, I must defend my honor and that of this beloved institution, which I am honored to preside over, before the Courts with all the means that the laws grant me.”

The Board of Directors of the Real Casino de Tenerife yesterday issued another statement in which it unanimously expressed its full support for its president in the face of “the acts of defamation” implied by the aforementioned complaint.

It is worth remembering that The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife named one of its streets after Miguel Cabrera Pérez-Camacho, in the Los Hoteles neighborhood., Near the bullring. The complainant showed his intention to leave the house and the lawyer asked him if he was going to leave without giving him a massage. For a few seconds, The young man massaged the president of the Tenerife Casino on the back with his thumbs. The young man made it clear that, in his opinion, the university professor only wanted to touch him and did not see any intention of going further.
