SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 27 December (EUROPA PRESS) –

The National Police have apprehended eight individuals for establishing a group dedicated to pilfering from cruise passengers arriving in Santa Cruz de Tenerife as part of their transatlantic voyages.

In a statement, the police have stated that this operation has taken place as part of a comprehensive strategy set up by the Provincial Police Station of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to deter the occurrence of thefts.

The inquiry, which commenced in November, concentrated on assessing the reports submitted by tourists, alongside analysing footage from security cameras.

These efforts enabled the officers to pinpoint the modus operandi of the arrestees, who functioned within organised and highly structured groups, classified under what is referred to as International Organised Crime.

Additionally, these findings were forwarded to the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office to secure the necessary guidance for directing the investigations and the compiled reports, indicating that they were indeed substantial criminal organisations operating systematically and not merely straightforward, isolated offences.

As a result of this, those arrested, charged with suspected theft and affiliation with a criminal organisation, were placed at the disposal of the appropriate judicial authority, which issued a prohibitive order from the main tourist locations within the capital by court order.
