The Tenerife Council has advised residents to refrain from accessing the summit of Teide due to adverse weather conditions. This follows the evacuation of another 28 individuals who perilously ascended to the upper station of the Cable Car, joining the 77 people who were rescued for the same reason the previous Saturday.

In a press release, the local authority reminded the public that the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands issued a pre-alert notice for rain and storms across all islands as of 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15.

On Sunday morning, the Cabildo coordinated the evacuation of 28 individuals who had foolishly ventured to the upper station of the Teide Cable Car.

This group had reached the summit on foot since the cable car was suspended due to the inclement weather, and they triggered the SOS emergency system linked to 112, the Government of the Canary Islands’ emergency services.

Upon contacting the Teide Cable Car operators and confirming that weather conditions permitted a temporary operation, the evacuation of the 28 individuals was carried out.

The Cabildo of Tenerife and the Government of the Canary Islands urge the public to exercise extreme caution during this pre-alert period, especially when outside. They also remind everyone to adhere to the self-protection guidelines set out in such circumstances to avoid unnecessary hazards.
