SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13th October (EUROPA PRESS) –

Plenilunio Santa Cruz concluded its sixteenth edition with a rating of ‘satisfactory’ or ‘excellent’ from 87% of participants, as indicated by a survey conducted by the Development Society of 825 individuals who attended the event last weekend.

The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, emphasised that 74% of those surveyed had been to previous editions, “which reinforces the notion that it is a well-established event and a regular fixture for thousands of locals and visitors.”

He also pointed out that 26% of the interviewees were first-time attendees at Plenilunio, confirming “once again, we have attracted new visitors, as has been the case year after year.”

“From Friday, 4th October to Sunday, 6th October, Santa Cruz was alive with music, culture, sports, and gastronomy, featuring activities for all ages and a comprehensive programme that thousands of residents and visitors enjoyed,” stated Bermúdez.

He further added that events like Plenilunio “not only invigorate the city but also stimulate the economy, as those thousands of attendees shop in our local businesses or dine in our pubs and restaurants, in addition to the job opportunities that arise from the celebration of these days.”

Furthermore, Carmen Pérez, the CEO of the Development Society, explained that the data gathered from the street surveys show that different age groups have varied reasons for attending Plenilunio.

Specifically, individuals aged between 30 and 45 mainly attended for the children’s activities, whereas attendees from other age brackets were motivated by the vibrant atmosphere within the city.

Regarding the event’s ability to attract visitors, just over 40% of participants came from outside the municipality, with 30% employing public transport to reach the centre of Santa Cruz.

Carmen Pérez announced that this survey will be followed up in the coming weeks with one aimed at the business community to ascertain the initiative’s impact on enterprises in the Tenerife capital.

The most frequented locations, apart from the concerts on Avenida Marítima and Plaza Candelaria, included the Palacio de Capitanía, which welcomed 5,690 visitors for the activities organised by the Canary Islands Command on Saturday, and the Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (TEA), attracting a total of 3,869 people throughout the weekend.

Other prominent venues included the Fuerte de Almeyda Regional Military Museum, with over 2,000 attendees on Saturday; the MUNA, where more than 1,300 individuals visited; the Plaza del Príncipe toy library, which hosted activities for over 1,200 children on Saturday and Sunday; and the Our Lady of Africa Market, where more than a thousand enjoyed musical performances on Saturday evening. Additionally, the San Rafael and San Roque Cemetery hosted over 550 individuals for theatrical performances, while nearly 500 people visited the Carnival House on Saturday and Sunday.
