SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela Armas, has guaranteed this Monday that the educational infrastructures devastated by the Cumbre Vieja volcano will be replaced but has said that it is “premature” to set their number and location since the eruption has not ended.

In response to questions from Sí Podemos and NC, the parliamentary committee has acknowledged that some “will not be in the same place” but the final decision depends on the planning of the reconstruction that the Cabildo and the municipalities will carry out.

Armas has commented that the school “is a fundamental structure” in any society and those who have lost them must recover them but has advanced that “we will have to wait a little longer” because “the first thing is that the volcano stops and the future is designed, it is risking a lot to say how many there are going to be “.

The counselor commented that all the children evicted from their centers due to the eruption are being cared for and they all go to class “as they can” in the centers that have been reorganized, underlining that they also receive emotional care, as do some workers, who ” they have lost everything and are doubly affected. “

Along these lines, he has valued the efforts of the island’s educational community because “they work with anguish and uncertainty” but it has been possible to relocate all students and guarantee educational services, either in person or digitally.

In addition, it has indicated that the bus service has been reorganized – 1,200 euros are paid per day after the changes -, the cleaning of the centers has been reinforced to deal with the ash, the zero quota for displaced children has been extended and in a vulnerable situation and students have been accommodated in residences to avoid long journeys, among other actions.

Armas has commented that there are daily meetings to fine-tune the protocol for face-to-face classes and air quality and remarked that FPP2 masks, protective glasses and visor caps have been delivered to students and workers.

Likewise, it has indicated that cameras, almost 500 technological devices and unlimited connectivity packages have been delivered, while evaluating the term of extension of the scholarships – 64 new applications have entered.

As for the second year high school students, he has indicated that they are pending the resolution of the Ministry of Education on the EBAU, which in principle, it seems that it will repeat the format of the pandemic with more choice options in the exams.

ON THE ISLAND THERE IS AN “EMOTIONAL SLUMP”, AS WE CAN

The spokesman for Sí Podemos, Manuel Marrero, has said that although there are no “certainties” about the end of the eruption “we must make future forecasts” since there are centers affected by lava and others in Jedey, Las Manchas, Tacande or Puerto Naos whose students have been transferred as they are close to the exclusion zone.

Marrero has pointed out that there is a great “affective and emotional affection” on the island, beyond the material losses, with many families “in no man’s land” for which he has appealed to the reconstruction of towns with services.

He has valued that the right to education is maintained at a time of “emotional collapse” and has insisted that from the public administrations it is a matter of “that no one is in need and the general interest is sought”

Carmen Hernández (NC) has valued the “effort” of the entire educational community of La Palma and of the Executive itself because “it is difficult” to govern in the midst of a pandemic and a volcanic crisis. “That is not achieved without commitment or work,” he added.
