Improving Accessibility in Anaga and Teno Parks: An Investment of €126,000

The Tenerife Island Council will invest €126,300 in improving access to recreational areas and trails located in the rural parks of Teno and Anaga. The works will be carried out in Llano de Los Viejos (La Laguna) and La Quebrada (Tegueste), as well as on the Los Silos-Cuevas Negras-Erjos trail. The Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) published the three initiatives promoted by the Department of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies, headed by councilor Blanca Pérez and under the direction of Pedro Millán, who signed the resolutions.

The general objective of this action is to enhance the accessibility of these spaces and provide equipment for people with disabilities.

Public Information. The three projects will be subject to public display for twenty business days following the publication. In La Quebrada, the budget amounts to €41,308 and in Llano de Los Viejos, €54,444. Both cases are financed by the European Union’s Next Generation funds. As for the trail in the municipality of Los Silos, the amount is €32,548.

La Quebrada. Situated in the heart of Pedro Álvarez’s mountain, La Quebrada is an open space amidst the wildest nature. Its location makes it part of the routes that delve into the Anaga Rural Park. Many hikers make a mandatory stop there, joining those who use the facilities. That’s why it is one of the most visited recreational areas on the island. It does not have spaces for reduced mobility and there is a risk when crossing the road leading to the toilets and parking. In addition, the terrain is uneven at the entrance, while tables, stoves, and toilets are not accessible. Improvements include creating a PMR parking space, indicating pedestrian presence, adapting furniture and equipment, as well as installing a toilet for ostomized people. The works are expected to last for three months.

Llano de los Viejos. The recreational area is immersed in the laurel forest of Las Mercedes Mountain, one of the most representative ecosystems of the Anaga Rural Park. Access is via a cobbled track from the paved area. The proposal is to make toilets and equipment accessible, flatten gradients, remove fences that pose security problems, and warn of the danger of falls in some spaces. Two parking spaces for reduced mobility, accessible tables and stoves, as well as signs, are planned along with an inclusive children’s play area.
