The urban silhouette of Manhattan will star in the scenery of Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife of 2023which will occupy 2,000 square meters, will have a total screen area of 210 meters and will cost 215,000 euros without IGIC, as specified by the City Council this Monday during the presentation of the stage for the contests and galas within the framework of the VI Tricontinental Fair of Crafts.
under the theme New York, the city that never sleepsthe scenic space designed by Carlos Santos provides a “carnival vision” of Manhattan, characterized by its urban silhouette, in which its most emblematic buildings stand out, according to the architect specialized in scenography.
The scenic support will occupy an area of approximately 2,000 square meters, with a maximum height of 16 meters that will be adapted to the shape of the Fairgrounds, it will have a width of 60 meters and a central door at the mouth of the stage of 25 meters.
Participants will be able to access through three 23-meter ramps and in this edition there will also be a 14.5-meter extension of the turntable towards the public.
The design is conceived to give the greatest possible dynamism to the evolution of the parades of the queen candidates, as well as to the performances of the groups that will participate in the contests from January 26.
For this, there will be a total area of 210 square meters of screens that will complement the show that takes place on stage, added Carlos Santos.
The greatest compositional weight falls on the volumes of the most important buildings in the North American city, such as the Empire State, the Brooklyn Bridge or the Chrysler Building, although there will also be various advertising elements of the New York night, as well as characteristic vegetation, which will contribute visual versatility
“It is a challenge to put New York in the Fairgrounds”, said the author, who highlighted that this great city can be enjoyed from three points of view: its urban silhouette, its streets and also from its rooftops.
During the presentation, the mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, recalled that there are only 81 days left for the first act of the carnival to take place, which is the presentation of the candidates for queen in the different modalities.
“We are already at cruising speed thinking about Christmas and Carnival,” he said. The Councilor for Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, has admitted that there is “maximum pressure” within the organization for the celebration of this festival.
