In the previous year, the Local Police dealt with a total of 27 reports against residents for violating the new Cleaning and Waste regulations of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Among the penalties imposed, one was for defecation in a public area, nine for urinating in public spaces, ten for improper disposal of waste outside designated bins, and two for discarding cigarette butts on the pavement, as revealed by the Security Councillor, Gladis de León, in response to inquiries from the Vox municipal group during the oversight committee of the city council.

Other fines issued for breaching the ordinance include one for storing construction materials on the roadside, one for spilling liquids on public pathways, and three for defacing street furniture with graffiti.

The regulations, which came into effect in January 2023, stipulate fines ranging from €3,000 to €750 for offences like spitting in public spaces, improperly disposing of cigarette butts, draining balcony water onto the streets, or shaking carpets outdoors.
