The Historic Center Association of La Laguna urges the renewal of the Special Plan

The Historic Center Neighborhood Association brought back to the plenary hall of the La Laguna City Council his demand for a new Special Protection Plan (PEP) of the center. It was the beginning of the session on Thursday and during a point in which the president of the group intervened, Pablo Reyes. Other members of the entity carried signs from the public demanding “A new PEP now! and a hull management plan.

“Eighteen years have passed since the approval by the Municipal Plenary of the PEP (Special Protection Plan) of the helmet, enough time to evaluate it and assess the positive and negative aspects derived from its application,” the Association stated in some leaflets. «The validity of the Plan has had positive things, but also catastrophic consequences. Houses have been removed from the catalogue, country houses, alleys, parts of monumental buildings, plot alterations have disappeared….», collects the text.

“Loss” of assets

In the opinion of Casco Historico, “because of the PEP we have lost a valuable part of our heritage and identity,” and lamented that “it seems that only bars and franchises abound.” That is why he maintained that “La Laguna cannot wait any longer.” And he added: «“We need a democratic, participatory PEP with a management model that includes social, economic, cultural agents and the Administration.”. Likewise, they stated along the same lines that “we must face what we do with new technologies, wiring, street furniture, beautification…”, and also stated that “all life in this area must be regulated with a non-existent management plan.” currently”.

Last September, the Councilor for Territorial Planning and advisor-director of the Urban Planning Management, Adolfo Cordobés, indicated that he was going to opt for specific revisions in the PEP as a way to modify the document. “We are going to promote the creation of the Historic City Office, which will be multidisciplinary and in which we are going to anchor ourselves in two fundamental legs: the historic city management project and the Special Protection Plan, to continue with it and improve it” , the socialist councilor stated on that occasion, before referring to it as “a dynamic tool” and that “it can be improved.” And he maintained: “This Plan has been fundamental for the town of La Laguna.”
