The Canarian Government issues 54,000 consumer bonds for those affected by the fire

He Government of the Canary Islands invests 600,000 euros in the 54,000 consumer bonds to reactivate the economy in the 11 municipalities affected by the last forest fire recorded in Tenerife: Arafo, Candelaria, Güímar, Güímar, Arafo, El Rosario, Candelaria, Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Matanza de Acentejo, La Victoria de Acentejo, Santa Úrsula, Los Realejos and La Orotava. The campaign will run until March 31 of next year and will go on sale at 10:00 a.m. next Wednesday, through the platform www.bonoconsumotf.com. The investment will generate 1.2 million in spending on purchases to be made in participating businesses, which will be able to join the initiative starting today.

The system and conditions of use of these trade bonuses are the usual ones. The user pays 10 euros for the voucher, although its face value will be double, that is, 20 euros. If a consumer buys 10 vouchers, which is the maximum per person, he will pay 100 euros, but will be able to make purchases worth 200 euros. They can be purchased by anyone, but they can only be exchanged in establishments in the eleven municipalities affected by the fire. The novelty of the campaign called Consume in the municipalities affected by the Tenerife fire is that restaurant establishments are included for the first time.

The same user may exchange several vouchers in a single purchase and it will be necessary to present the DNI before paying, as well as the voucher in printed or digital format. Each establishment has a maximum spending limit of 3,000 euros, so the vouchers can be used until the establishment’s balance is exhausted and before the end of the campaign, set for March 31, 2024.

Manage Fauca

The general directorates of Commerce and Consumption, and of Tourism Planning, Training and Promotion of the Government of Canary Islands coordinates the initiative, which is managed by the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (Fauca).

The vice president and counselor of Economy, Industry, Commerce and the Self-Employed of the regional Executive, Manuel Dominguezand the Minister of Tourism and EmploymentJessica Lionpresented this action yesterday together with the president of Fauca, Abbas Moujir, with the presence of mayors and Commerce councilors of the City Councils who will star in the Consume campaign in the municipalities affected by the Tenerife fire, which aims to reactivate commercial activity of the eleven municipalities affected by the fire.

Domínguez highlighted that the implementation of these consumption bonds responds to a commitment made last September by the Government of the Canary Islands with the commerce sector. “The environmental recovery of the affected areas is important, but it is also important to support local businessmen and stimulate consumption,” said the regional vice president.

The regional Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jessica de León, emphasized the need to buy from local businesses due to “the essential role it plays in the economy and in job creation.”

The president of Fauca, Abbas Moujir, emphasized that the bonus formula “is a success for commerce and for consumers.” With that principle, he advocated continuing to carry out these types of campaigns “which are so well received in society and in the sector.”

From August 15 to November 10, the fire had a perimeter of 90 kilometers, burning more than 12,000 hectares – around 8% of the island’s surface, including part of the National Park of the Teide– from 12 municipalities (Fasnia is excluded from this campaign), It forced the eviction of almost 13,000 residents and was declared extinguished on November 10, 87 days after it began in an area of the Arafo municipality bordering Candelaria.
