The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, will appeal to the Ombudsman, Ángel Gabilondo, to file an appeal of unconstitutionality against the amnesty law, a decision that responds to the recent report from the Consistory’s legal services – requested by the councilor himself in November -, where he makes it clear that he cannot intervene in the processing of a norm that continues its course in Congress and that, furthermore, does not affect the municipality’s own interests.

Bermúdez explained yesterday that said report states that only the president of the national government, 50 deputies, 50 senators or the Ombudsman are entitled to file an appeal. “Therefore, this last figure is the one we are going to urge to act against a law that violates the Constitution. I will present the request as mayor, supported by the motion against supported in the plenary session on September 29, when this law is approved, since it cannot be done before.”
