SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of the Canary Islands has begun the process to present candidatures for the Canary Islands Awards 2024. The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) has published today, Friday, the announcement making public the three modalities that will be awarded in this edition: Fine Arts and Interpretation, Research and Innovation, and Heritage.

From now on, academies, cultural or research centers, universities, institutions and personalities will have until December 31 of this year to submit their proposals.

According to Law 2/1997 of the Canary Islands Awards in its article 1, these awards that are presented on May 30 in the official ceremony of Canary Islands Day have the objective of “stimulating and recognizing the work and effort made by people or entities in a continued and relevant work, with significance for the Canary Islands”.

In accordance with the additional provision of the aforementioned Law, for the year 2024 the modalities of the awards will be those of Fine Arts and Interpretation, Research and Innovation, and Historical Heritage.

Article 6.1 establishes that academies, cultural or research centers, universities, institutions and personalities will be in charge of submitting the proposals they deem appropriate that must be presented before December 31.

In the case of the Fine Arts and Interpretation award, the regulations specify that “it will be awarded to those people or entities whose work of creation or execution constitutes a significant contribution to the Canarian cultural heritage in the fields of painting, sculpture, architecture, music, theater, cinematography, dance, photography and other artistic expressions that use image, matter or sound.”

The Canary Islands Research and Innovation Award will be awarded to those people or entities whose activity dedicated to the discovery of new knowledge or innovative techniques represents a highly significant contribution in the fields of science, technology and humanities.

Finally, the prize in the Historical Heritage category is awarded to people or entities “whose continued work in the fields of Prehistory, History, Art History, Archeology and Monumental Heritage represents an important instrument of further study in the historical roots and hallmarks of the Canarian people”.

The Government of the Canary Islands, in anticipation of what is established in the first final provision of Law 2/1997, of March 14, and within the limits established in the General Budget Bill of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for the year 2024, has set the amount of the prize in each of its modalities at eighteen thousand euros (€18,000.00).

The nomination proposals for the three modalities of the Canary Islands 2024 Awards may be submitted, with December 31 of this year as the deadline, at the electronic headquarters of the Presidency of the Government or in the records of the Autonomous Community in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. and in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where those who request it will be provided with the regulations governing the Canary Awards, as well as printed models for the formulation of proposals.
