Good news and a door to hope. This is how they demonstrated yesterday neighbors of the Las Canteras buildingin Buenavista del Norteupon confirming the postponement of the first of the 11 evictions planned for this Fridaywhich was postponed to the 27th along with the others affected, among whom are families with children and people in vulnerable situations.

These families subscribed more than a decade ago to the rental of a privately promoted Official Protection home with an option to purchase in an urbanization of four buildings in Roycasa, but last year the developer lost ownership of the building, which was acquired by a vulture fund and only recognizes some of the contracts.

However, those affected are confident of reaching a solution before that date after the meeting they held yesterday with the Minister of the Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands, Nieves Lady Barreto, despite the fact that she has no powers in this matter. matter, as specified by this department.

The neighbors assured this newspaper that the counselor showed her willingness to negotiate and try to resolve a problem that has been entrenched for a long time but that since October of last year became even more complicated because the first eviction notices began, which have been paralyzed. , since the situation of the property has not been resolved. The latter and other details of the case were conveyed to Nieves Lady Barreto by the lawyer who represents the families. Among them, she cited that the building does not have a certificate of occupancy, that the homes are not classified as VPO and that in August the electricity supply company cut off their service without prior notice.

“The vulture fund is in a hurry to close it, because nothing else can be done,” declared those affected.

Upon learning of these data, BNieves Lady Barreto committed to holding a new meeting in which she will also convene those responsible for the Canary Islands Housing Institute (Icavi), the company Visocan and the Minister of Social Welfare, “knowing in advance that it is about of a very complicated matter.”

However, the neighbors will meet today to decide the measures they will adopt if the solution becomes entrenched, as happened in the month of May, and they do not rule out holding mobilizations or protests again at the doors of the building.
