The Cuesta de la Villa roundabout, in the municipality of Santa Úrsula, was partially opened to traffic towards the TF-5 yesterday, that is, only in a descending direction, while in two weeks it will be completed in an ascending direction, confirmed the insular Minister of Highways, Dámaso Arteaga, told this newspaper.

“The climb from the other side of the highway is still closed and the traffic light continues to work at that point to organize the provisional lanes that have been enabled,” added the island official.

However, the construction works on this link, which will improve the intersection of the TF-217 with the access to the Northern highway, will continue until the months of November or December, in which normal traffic will be restored. Definitively.

The work began at the end of January and the commitment was to open to traffic in September, recalls the counselor. The delay in execution is due to the unevenness of the terrain, which required recesses to be made so that the roundabout has visibility in all its branches and thus reduces the risk of accidents. “Overcoming this difficulty has been quite complicated, especially allowing traffic to pass in both directions, therefore, the solution has been prolonged over time,” Arteaga explained.

The roundabout has an external diameter of about 30 meters and has three branches that will improve the circulation of the residents of the area, in addition to providing a solution to the traffic jams that occur in this area, since it will allow for greater fluidity on the TF-217. , a road on which some 3,530 vehicles circulate daily, whose drivers have been suffering daily delays for years both from the TF-5 highway and from La Orotava.
