Artenara, Tejeda and La Aldea, free of Covid among their residents

If the positives detected in the health centers of each locality are attended to, the number of municipalities on the Island free of Covid-19 amounts to 12, according to data collected by CVCanarias, obtained from the Ministry of Health. These are -in addition to Artenara, Tejeda and La Aldea- Agüimes, Arucas, Firgas, Gáldar, Moya, Santa Brígida, Teror, Valleseco, Valsequillo and Vega de San Mateo.

In Lanzarote, the only municipality in which there is no case among its residents is Haría; while in Fuerteventura it is Betancuria.

With the 79 new cases notified yesterday, the number of accumulated infections in the Islands reaches 95,340, of which 1,258 are currently active. The number of new positives rose yesterday after a week of consecutive declines.

79

new cases

  • With the 79 new positives that were published yesterday, the number of accumulated infections in the Canary Islands stands at 95,340, of which 1,258 are currently active.

In relation to hospital admissions, 32 people are in ICUs; while 130 remain hospitalized. The Accumulated Incidence at seven days in the Canary Islands stands at 24.17 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and at 14 days at 50.41.59 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. These figures place the Archipelago in unprecedented scenarios since the summer of 2020.

By islands, Tenerife added 40 cases yesterday, with a total of 45,606 accumulated cases and 698 epidemiologically active cases; Gran Canaria has 36,365 accumulated cases, 22 more than the previous day and 290 active. Lanzarote adds 11 new cases with 6,912 accumulated and 99 epidemiologically active; Fuerteventura has 4,480 accumulated cases with five more cases than the previous day and 150 active. La Palma adds a new case and has 1,108 accumulated and 13 active cases; El Hierro does not register new positives, so its accumulated are 465 and its assets are eight. For its part, La Gomera does not add cases, so its accumulated are 403 and it remains without active cases.

82.7%

immunized people

  • The Canary Archipelago already has 82.7% of its target population over 12 years of age with the complete vaccination schedule, which makes a total of 1,623,169 immunized people.

Regarding vaccination, Health reported that the vaccination teams have administered 3,122,341 doses. Until yesterday, 1,623,169 people had been immunized in the Canary Islands who have already received the complete vaccination schedule, which represents 82.78% of the target population of the Archipelago.

The EMA recommends the third dose

The Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has concluded that an additional dose of Pfizer / Covid-19 vaccines may be administered. BioNTech and Moderna to people with weakened immune systems, at least 28 days after their second dose. The recommendation comes after studies show that an additional dose of these vaccines increases the ability to produce antibodies against the virus that causes Covid-19 in organ transplant patients with weakened immune systems. Although there is no direct evidence that the ability to produce antibodies in these patients protected against Covid-19, the EMA explains in a statement that “the extra dose is expected to increase protection in at least some patients.” In any case, the European regulatory body points out that “it will continue to monitor any data that arises about its effectiveness.” | Europa Press
