SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 8. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, and the Minister for Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Antonio Valbuena, met this Friday at the Palacio Insular to profile the status of processing of the environmental projects on the island and the management of European Next Generation funds.

Thus, Martín highlighted in a note that of the funds that have been announced by the Ministry and that have been launched by the Canarian Government, more than six million have already been confirmed that will be transferred directly to the Cabildo in terms of restoration of ecosystems and green infrastructures, recovery and protection of vegetation on roadsides, sustainable forest management or actions in the Teide National Park.

Likewise, the subsidies already published and to which the Cabildo de Tenerife can opt together with the rest of the administrations, entities and individuals in matters of electric mobility, self-consumption and storage, thermal renewables, waste, supply and reduction of losses or reserves of the biosphere, among others.

Valbuena stressed that “Tenerife will be a fundamental piece in the common strategy” of all Canarians to decarbonize the economy in 2040.

Along these lines, the regional official recalled the importance of projects such as the submarine cable that will link Tenerife and La Gomera, which is already under development, or the future hydraulic jump that is planned to be developed on the island.

“To all this we must add the opportunity that the recovery funds represent to accelerate the environmental deadlines established by all administrations and to generate green employment opportunities and volume of work among Tenerife companies around projects related to sustainability, the economy circular and renewable energies,” asserted Valbuena.

In addition, the adequacy of the ITER wind farms was addressed, where the repowering process has begun, pending the environmental impact statement, to proceed with the replacement of 29 wind turbines with only five new generation ones.

The island councilor for Natural Environment Management and Security, Isabel García, the councilor for Sustainable Development and Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez, and the island director for Coordination and Support for the President, Aarón Afonso, participated in this meeting.

On behalf of the Ministry team, along with the counselor were present the Deputy Minister of Ecological Transition, Miguel Ángel Pérez; the Deputy Minister of Territorial Planning, Leopoldo Díaz; the regional director of Waters, Víctor Navarro; and the general director of the Fight against Climate Change, José Domingo Fernández, the general director of the Natural Environment Protection Agency, Ángel Fariña.
