SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 4 May. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Deputy Minister of Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, Gustavo Santana, has highlighted the sustained consolidation of the positive trend in the labor market, despite economic uncertainties, when analyzing the registered unemployment data corresponding to last April, with a decrease of 1, 37% (2,772 fewer people) compared to March and 29.57% (83,542 fewer) in year-on-year comparison to a total of 198,981 unemployed and unemployed.

“With the second largest annual reduction in all of Spain, only behind the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands are below 200,000 people without work for the first time in 14 years, specifically, with the lowest registered unemployment figure since October 2008 , at the beginning of the previous economic crisis”, assessed Gustavo Santana before highlighting the figure together with a new record for affiliation to Social Security, with 839,049 contributors after an increase of 0.63% per month (5,225 more) and 8 .53% per year (65,941), that is, “more workers but fewer unemployed men and women”.

In addition, the Deputy Minister of Employment highlighted the new increase in permanent contracts for the fourth consecutive month, thanks to a labor reform resulting from social dialogue, with an increase of 25.24% compared to last March (6,577 more documents) and 508 .07% (27,268) until surpassing the temporary modality for the first time in the historical series of the Archipelago” (53.08% of the total).

However, Gustavo Santana appealed for “prudence” in the face of the persistence of various uncertainties in the international situation of the economic scenario, such as the evolution of the pandemic or the spiral of inflation, although he maintained a “moderate optimism” of labor statistics during the next few months.
