United We Can Requests Information About a Possible Spill in Jover

This is not the first time that users of the coastal area have reported discharges from a private property

The Unidas se puede coalition has today submitted a request for information regarding a possible water discharge in the vicinity of the Jover pool, originating from a nearby private residence. This is not the first time the group has received complaints from people looking to enjoy the Tejina coast; according to reports, this has happened before, and complaints about the situation continue.

It is worth noting that the Jover pool recently received the Blue Flag award, recognising the quality of its water, environmental management, and accessibility and services in the area. However, several videos are circulating on social media alerting to water flowing from a nearby residence directly into the sea. “In the recording, it is claimed that this is waste water. Our group has requested all available documentation from the Town Hall to find out if there is any information regarding a possible discharge, whether it is waste water or not, as well as whether any procedures have been initiated regarding this matter, given that we are aware this is not an isolated incident and that it has happened before,” states Idaira Afonso, councillor and co-spokesperson for Unidas se puede.

For the coalition, it is of vital importance to ensure the quality of bathing areas and to prevent any kind of uncontrolled discharge. “From Unidas se puede, we are raising this issue to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to guarantee that Jover can continue to be a place of enjoyment for the people of Tejina, as well as for all visitors to this bathing area. We aim to preserve the natural environment and, of course, to prevent discharges into the sea. With this, we want to emphasise the importance of prevention and awareness, as well as monitoring and the application of penalties if necessary in this or any other case that arises in our municipality,” Afonso asserts.
