SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 15 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife, through the Insular Directorate of Equality and Diversity, has organised an extensive programme of activities to commemorate LGBTIQA+ Pride Month, under the theme ‘Diverse Pride, Shared Voices’. The aim is to promote equality, diversity, and respect for the rights of all individuals.
The programme will take place throughout June in various municipalities across the island. It includes exhibitions, theatrical performances, film screenings, literary presentations, awareness-raising actions, and institutional events aimed at highlighting affective-sexual, gender, and familial diversity, as well as fostering a more inclusive society free of discrimination.
Rosa Dávila, President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, emphasised in a statement that “Pride is an opportunity to advocate for rights, celebrate diversity, and remind institutions of their responsibility to continue building a fairer and more equal society for everyone.”
She also pointed out that “Tenerife is an island committed to equality and respect, and this programme reflects the Cabildo’s commitment to fostering safe, inclusive spaces open to all citizens.”
Meanwhile, Patricia León, Insular Director of Equality and Diversity, explained that a “diverse, participatory, and decentralised programme has been designed to reach various parts of the island, bringing the message of respect, coexistence, and recognition of diversity closer to the public.”
León added that “each of these activities serves as a tool to raise awareness, generate reflection, and advance towards a society where everyone can live freely and without discrimination.”
Francisco Linares, Mayor of La Orotava, expressed satisfaction with the initiative, warning that “no step back should be taken regarding any aspect that could result in a reduction of rights. It is crucial to continue engaging from local government and all levels.”
