The ‘Bajamar, Personal Growth 2026’ and ‘Punta del Hidalgo, Experience the Natural Environment 2026’ programmes will offer 500 free places between July and August to promote well-being, social interaction, and active aging.
The City Council of La Laguna is launching the registration period for the summer programmes ‘Bajamar, Personal Growth 2026’ and ‘Punta del Hidalgo, Experience the Natural Environment 2026’ tomorrow, June 16. These initiatives are aimed at residents aged over 50, encouraging healthy habits, active leisure, and social connections.
Activities will be held from July 6 to August 28, utilising the natural coastal surroundings of La Laguna as venues for community engagement, physical and emotional well-being, and interactions among residents from different neighbourhoods and areas of the municipality.
Fran Hernández, the Councillor for Citizen Participation, emphasised that these programmes offer “an opportunity to foster spaces for meeting and participation, promoting active and healthy aging, and strengthening community ties among people from various parts of the municipality.”
The councillor also encouraged the public to take part in this initiative, stating, “We invite all eligible individuals to register and enjoy an enriching experience that combines activity, social interaction, and contact with our natural environment—two key elements for enhancing quality of life.”
A total of 500 places will be available, divided across ten transport routes covering the entire municipal territory. Of these, 250 individuals will begin activities in July at Bajamar and will rotate to Punta del Hidalgo in August, while the other 250 will follow the reverse route.
To facilitate access from all districts, ten pick-up routes have been established to connect various population centres within the municipality, ensuring participation from residents throughout the La Laguna area.
The registration period opens at 09:00 on June 16 and closes at 23:59 on June 24, exclusively via the online form available on the municipal website. Applications submitted through any other means will not be accepted.
Eligible participants must be registered residents of San Cristóbal de La Laguna and aged over 50. The City Council also notes that this initiative is independent and unrelated to other municipal programmes.
Fran Hernández reiterated that “citizen participation is also built by creating opportunities for sharing experiences, forming new friendships, and enjoying the municipality as a community. These activities help combat unwanted loneliness and enhance the overall well-being of our seniors.”
