Santa Cruz de Tenerife Prepares for Día de Canarias 2026

Which Shops Will Be Open on 30th May 2026, Canary Islands Day, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife?

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is gearing up to celebrate Día de Canarias 2026, a festive day filled with cultural activities, institutional events, and a significant increase in foot traffic throughout the capital. As is customary each year, one of the most common queries among residents is which shops and establishments will remain open during this public holiday.

Although May 30 is a regional holiday across the archipelago, some businesses may choose to open based on commercial regulations and their own hours. Shopping centres, supermarkets, and shops in specific areas might have special opening hours, so it’s advisable to check in advance before heading out.

Supermarkets and Markets

All Mercadona stores in the capital will be open on Saturday, May 30, including those on Calle Alfaro and Fernández de Navarro, Taco, and Avenida Reyes Católicos. However, they will operate on a special schedule from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The HiperDino and SuperDino chains will only keep some of their stores open. Locations at Avenida Venezuela, Anaga, Tres de Mayo, the SuperDino at Mercado de África, Tomé Cano, Tío Pino, and El Saludo will be closed. Meanwhile, the stores at Parque Bulevar, Ramblas, and Weyler will open from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Shopping Centres

The Meridiano Shopping Centre will remain open on Día de Canarias with its regular hours: from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. El Corte Inglés will have special hours from 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM. Additionally, the Nivaria Shopping Centre will be open on Saturday, May 30.

Pharmacies

In light of the Día de Canarias holiday, some pharmacies in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will have on-call services on May 30 to ensure access to medications and pharmaceutical care. The following pharmacies will provide 24-hour service:

  • Pharmacy on Calle Horacio Nelsón
  • Pharmacy on Avenida Islas Canarias

Furthermore, as a reinforcement, pharmacies in the Viera and Clavijo, Pedro de Mendoza, CB Ofra, Áurea Díaz Flores, Tomé Cano, and Avenida Anaga areas will remain open until 9:30 PM or 10:00 PM.

Activities in Santa Cruz on Día de Canarias

If you are looking for activities to enjoy on Día de Canarias in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital will offer opportunities to explore the gastronomy and culture of the archipelago. One highlight will be “A Modo Canario,” an event that transforms Calle La Noria into a journey through the eight islands featuring local products, wines, and traditions associated with the Canary Islands.

This initiative will take place on May 29 and 30, bringing together producers, gastronomic offerings, and cultural displays in one location. The event aims to showcase products made in the Canary Islands and promote the primary sector’s work in a setting designed to be a meeting point for culture, landscape, and flavours, coinciding with a date of particular significance for the islands.
