Puerto de la Cruz Signs Agreement for New Underground Car Park
The Puerto de la Cruz Council has signed an agreement with the Diocese of Tenerife to construct an underground car park with approximately 300 spaces in Punta Brava. This project also involves the reorganisation of public spaces and the construction of a new community building. The agreement follows the approval of preliminary actions for the public works concession contract by the municipal parliament.
### Key Elements of the Agreement
According to the council’s statement, a significant aspect of the agreement is the transfer of the old Santa Rita Home to the municipality, as this property is currently unused. Additionally, it includes the return of areas occupied on public land.
### Parking Facilities
The project includes the demolition of unused buildings, including the Santa Rita Home, to make way for the underground car park. The infrastructure will provide around 300 parking spaces, with approximately half reserved for residents under a 40-year use concession.
The council emphasises that this initiative aims to address the long-standing parking deficit in Punta Brava and reduce surface traffic pressure.
### New Community Building
As part of the redevelopment, existing constructions measuring around 110 and 504 square metres will be removed. These will be replaced by a new community building that will be smaller, covering 284 square metres. This change is expected to create approximately 330 square metres of new open space, including landscaped areas and recreational zones.
### Project Approval and Improvements
The Puerto de la Cruz Council highlights that the recent municipal approval has allowed for the adaptation of the project’s technical documents. This includes revisions to the preliminary project and feasibility studies to incorporate enhancements made since the agreement, which now features an expanded underground parking area and a reorganisation of the planned open and community spaces.
