Submissions for this competition can be made until 31 July
The Tejina Hearts Association, in collaboration with La Laguna City Council, has launched the 39th edition of the Public Poetry and Verse Competition. The submission period will remain open for those interested until the upcoming 31 July.
The theme chosen this year for the competition is ‘The Fruit’, a very characteristic element of these celebrations in La Laguna, which can be interpreted in a literary or symbolic sense.
The jury appointed by the Tejina Hearts Association and the Festival Committee will evaluate the originality of the submitted pieces, taking into account aspects such as the use of stanzas and traditional lyrical forms of the Canary Islands, including endechas, popular décimas, and compositions inspired by the local landscapes and geography of this part of the municipality.
The length of the submitted works must not exceed fifty verses and, in any case, they must always be original and unpublished. The verses must adhere to an appropriate metre that allows them to be sung.
Participants will be eligible for various prizes in three categories: ‘The Hearts in the Festival Context’, ‘Free’, and ‘Best Individual Verse’. Each citizen wishing to take part in this competition can submit a maximum of ten verses.
In the first category, the prize will be 200 euros, just like in the ‘Free’ section. The best individual verse will receive the José Antonio Rodríguez Felipe Award and 100 euros.
