The Cabildo of Tenerife has put out to tender the construction of a new clean point in the Los Rodeos area, in La Laguna, with an investment of around 1.1 million euros.
The facility, which has an execution period of eight months once the work has been awarded, will expand the network of clean points on the island and facilitate waste collection for the public.
The Councillor for Natural Resources and Sustainability, Blanca Pérez, explains that “the aim is to make it easier for citizens to dispose of household materials that can be recycled or have a second life. To this end, we are making a significant effort, with measures such as extending the opening hours of the clean points and building new facilities distributed across the island.”
Free Use
Moreover, Pérez reminds us that using the clean points “is free of charge” and that the eight clean points currently in operation are open on Mondays from 8:00 to 16:00; from Tuesday to Friday from 8:00 to 20:00; on Saturdays from 9:00 to 20:00; and on Sundays from 9:00 to 14:00.
For his part, the Island Director of Waste, Alejandro Molowny, states that the clean points “play a fundamental role in the collection and treatment of waste” and recalls that last year, waste collection at Tenerife’s clean points increased by 13.3% compared to 2023, managing over 62,600 tonnes.
Other Eight Points
The new facility in Los Rodeos joins the existing clean points in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Jagua), Las Torres de Taco (La Laguna), Güímar, Adeje, Buenavista del Norte, La Guancha, La Orotava, and Arona.
Currently, the Cabildo of Tenerife is working on establishing another eight clean points, including those in Arico (in the construction phase at the Tenerife Environmental Complex), Tegueste (in tender), Fasnia, Granadilla, Vilaflor, Guía de Isora, and Las Chafiras (already awarded).
