SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 14 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the area of Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action, coordinates the international project ‘Stars: Empowering & Creating new job opportunities’, with which it wants to promote astronomical tourism as an alternative for youth.
In the initiative, which contemplates a budget of 60,000 euros co-financed by the European Commission, through the Erasmus+ program, entities from Bali (Indonesia) and Guadalcanal (Solomon Island) collaborate.
As explained in a note by the councilor Carmen Luz Baso, who has held a meeting with the promoters of the program these days, “it is a new international mobility project that has begun to be executed at the beginning of 2022 and in which cooperation with other international territories to train young people in an activity that has great potential for growth on the island, such as astrotourism”.
Coordinated by the Insular Foundation for Training, Employment and Business Development (Fifede), the initiative is valid for two years and includes several astronomical tourism activities with which it wants to develop a new non-formal learning method.
Among the planned actions, the call for a scholarship to travel to Bali stands out, once the situation after the pandemic is normalized, and to participate in various training and recreational activities with which they want to delve into astronomical tourism.
“The objective is to take advantage of the opportunity to delve into astronomical observation, the interpretation of stars and their connection with the popular legends of the different territories that participate, to publicize the richness of their cultural heritage,” says the counselor.
