Aemet warns of the return of extreme heat to the Canaries: dust and temperatures exceeding 30 degrees
Extreme heat returns to the Canary Islands this Tuesday, 15th July, with a notable rise in maximum temperatures in the interior regions. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), temperatures will reach 35 ºC in the Tejeda basin and in the south- and west-facing midlands of Gran Canaria, as well as in areas of the interior of southern Fuerteventura. Temperatures of 30 ºC are also expected in the interior of Lanzarote and in the southern midlands of Tenerife, marking a significant increase compared to previous days.

The day will begin with cloudy intervals in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, which are expected to clear from midday. In the northern mountainous islands, there will also be morning cloudiness that will give way to large clear spells as the day progresses. In the rest of the areas, a largely cloudless or clear outlook is anticipated.

The forecast also includes dust in suspension at high altitudes, particularly intense over the eastern islands of the archipelago.

The northeast wind will blow with intervals of strong gusts on the southeast and northwest slopes of the mountainous islands, where very strong gusts are not ruled out during the early hours of the morning. In the midlands and high areas, the wind will be a moderate southeast, which could contribute to a feeling of sultriness during the central hours of the day.
