The island of La Palma will host next Friday an extraordinary and monographic Governing Council in which different measures will be addressed to face the crisis situation caused by the eruption of the volcano, including the housing emergency of people who have lost their homes. households.

This was announced at a press conference by the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, after a technical meeting of the Steering Committee of the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Attention to Emergencies due to Volcanic Risk (Pevolca), and in which he appeared with the president of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, and the president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Mariano Hernández Zapata.

Ángel Víctor Torres explained that the Governing Council on Friday will try to “find formulas” for those people who have lost their homes and who are now with relatives or in the El Fuerte Seclusion, and thus respond to that “absolute need “along with other measures that will be launched together with the Cabildo de La Palma, the town councils of the affected municipalities and the Government of Spain.

Torres has also announced that His Majesty the King will be on the island of La Palma this Thursday and, in addition, he wanted to thank all those who have called “standing next to the Canary Islands”. In this sense, he highlighted that all the regional presidents “without exception” have placed themselves “next to the palm tree society”; also the presidents of the Azores, Madeira and Cape Verde, who have offered their resources, and representatives of all the political forces at the state level. According to Ángel Víctor Torres, all this is “a demonstration that all Spain and all international communication is currently with the island of La Palma”.

On the other hand, it has influenced the need to maintain “the greatest of precautions” with the volcano, which is still active, and with one of the streams, which continues to walk towards the sea, at about 200 meters per hour, taking ahead houses and areas dedicated to agriculture, to which it will be necessary to add everything that is found in its path until it reaches the coast.

In this regard, the head of the Canarian Executive has emphasized that the moment when the lava reaches the sea is “a critical moment” and recalled what happened with the eruption of the Teneguía 50 years ago, as the only person who died It was as a consequence of the gases that originated when the lava came into contact with the sea water.

At the same time, he has once again emphasized that the best news that can be given is that so far there is no need to regret personal injury nor has anyone had to be treated healthily by the volcano.

AVOID APPROACHING THE VOLCANO.

For his part, the president of the Cabildo de La Palma, Mariano Hernández Zapata, has wanted to make it clear that the volcano area is not safe, so he has sent a message to the entire population to avoid approaching in vehicles or circulating on the routes “for the safety of all” and so that the security and emergency teams can carry out their work more normally.

Likewise, he affirmed that the Cabildo is working “from minute one” to provide solutions to displaced residents, to farmers who see the irrigation supply in danger and to each and every one of the demands that arise minute by minute from an emergency that has not ended.
