The PP of La Laguna claims the local government has yet to open the promised parking facilities in La Punta del Hidalgo.

Molina: “They committed to act before the summer of 2024, but the reality is that residents still have no solutions and face the same problem as always.”

The Popular Party of La Laguna has strongly criticised the inaction of the municipal government regarding the lack of parking spaces in La Punta del Hidalgo, a repeated demand from residents which has a motion approved by the municipal plenary since 10 October 2023.

Juan Antonio Molina, spokesperson for the Popular group, recalled that “it was us who promoted a detailed motion, with concrete proposals to improve mobility, road safety, and, especially, the creation of new parking areas on Juan J. García Expósito Street —better known as ‘El Gago’—. That motion was approved and the government committed to provide new parking locations before the summer of 2024. Today, in the middle of summer 2025, absolutely nothing has been done.”

In that same plenary session, the Popular group asked the government about the expected timelines for the establishment of the parking areas. The response was that “in two or three months” a parcel currently occupied by the company Teidagua would be freed up and private plots would be sought for that purpose. “The response was pure institutional façade. Twenty-one months have passed and that parcel has not been recovered, nor has any agreement with private owners been reported. The situation remains the same, but with increased frustration among residents,” lamented Molina.

Lack of planning and zero compliance.

The PP of La Laguna denounces that the government “has neither acted nor fulfilled its word,” despite the approved document including urgent measures to improve traffic flow, install signage, reduce speed, and, above all, enable parking areas for residents, visitors, and traders.

“The parking problem in La Punta is generating increasing discomfort and desperation. The government’s lack of commitment is affecting the daily lives of residents, the development of local commerce, and the experience of those visiting one of the most iconic coastal areas of the municipality,” stated the Popular spokesperson.

The PP is demanding immediate action regarding the state of the Teidagua parcel, the alleged plots under negotiation, and the reasons why not a single one of the measures approved in 2023 has been implemented. “The inability to manage and the neglect of neighbourhoods is once again evident. Residents do not deserve empty promises: they deserve solutions now,” concluded Juan Antonio Molina.
