Disa Ready to Revise Wind Projects in Tenerife After Cabildo’s Rejection

The energy company Grupo Disa has assured that its wind projects in Fasnia and Güímar (Tenerife) comply with regulations and planning, despite which it shows its willingness to make the necessary modifications to adapt them to the preferences of the Cabildo.

The president of the island corporation, Rosa Dávila, showed last Wednesday her rejection of the construction of the two wind farms because they put the island’s natural heritage at risk, as they affect the surroundings of the Barranco de Fasnia and Güímar, a protected area with the status of Natural Monument and part of the Red Natura 2000.

According to a report prepared by the Insular Directorate of Territorial Planning, Historical Heritage and Landscape, both the planned location for the wind turbines and the layout of the evacuation power lines “negatively impact” the environmental, landscape, and wildlife values of the enclave.

Grupo Disa has responded in a statement that the two wind projects, named Pilón I and Pilón II, comply with the planning, since the first is located in rustic land designated for energy infrastructures and the second in agricultural rustic land.

Regarding the Barranco de Fasnia and Güímar, the supports for the overhead line are placed outside the protected area.

In regards to the malpaís of Güímar, the line is buried in the outer path that defines that space, through which vehicles pass, so there is no impact, according to Disa.

However, the company points out that the projects are still in the processing phase, so it is possible to introduce the modifications desired by the Cabildo “to adapt to their preferences,” despite complying with environmental regulations.

According to Disa, these adjustments would contemplate both the relocation of wind turbines and the layouts of the supports and the evacuation power line.

“The projects have been designed with a logic of minimum environmental and territorial impact, and the layout of the power line, which combines aerial and underground sections, has been planned to adapt to existing roads, tracks, and highways,” the company indicated, reaffirming its willingness to collaborate with administrations and neighbors and its commitment to a sustainable and respectful energy transition with the environment.
