Madrid/Santa Cruz de Tenerife 19 Apr. (Press Europa) –
The Canary Islands will experience overcast conditions to the north of the mountainous regions, with the possibility of light and sporadic showers, particularly in the mediaías and during the earlier part of the day, as per the forecast from the State Meteorology Agency (Aemet).
In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the weather is expected to be predominantly cloudy with some intervals of clearer skies. In other areas, generally clear conditions are anticipated.
Temperatures are expected to remain stable, ranging from a maximum of 24 degrees in Tenerife to a minimum of 12 degrees in El Hierro.
However, winds may prompt a yellow warning in Gran Canaria and La Gomera. Strong gusts are predicted in the peaks, Medianías del Sur, as well as in the northwest and east of La Gomera, and in the summits, southeast, and western regions of Gran Canaria.
Similar winds are also likely, albeit locally, in the summits and at the southeast and northwest ends of the remaining mountainous islands.
Situation in the rest of the country
The Peninsula will remain influenced by storms in northern Spain on this Resurrection Sunday, resulting in unstable weather throughout the day with a predominance of cloudy skies and light rain, although more persistent in the northern third of the Peninsula, as forecasted by the State Meteorology Agency (Aemet).
Additionally, storms are anticipated in eastern localities, Andalusia, and the Balearic Islands from the afternoon as the system progresses southeast, although they will be infrequent and sporadic.
On the Galician coast and in the Almeria Levante, Aemet has issued an orange wind alert, forecasting currents from the northwest at speeds between 50 and 70 km/h, accompanied by high waves that could reach up to six metres on the Galician coast. The intensity will be lesser in Almería, where waves are estimated to be around 3 metres high.
Conversely, there are warnings for snowfall in the mountainous areas of the northern Peninsula, with potential accumulations beginning from heights of 1,100 metres. AEMET also predicts snow in the Sierra de Madrid and the Serranía de Cuenca from altitudes of 1,200 to 1,300 metres.
Regarding temperatures, maximums are set to decrease in the Balearic Islands, the eastern Cantabrian region, and the eastern and southeastern ends of the Peninsula, with drops of between 3ºC and 5ºC. In contrast, maximums in the western Cantabrian area, the Pyrenees, and most of the Peninsula will remain stable, ranging from 15ºC to 20ºC. Only the provincial capitals of Valencia, Almería, and Córdoba are expected to exceed 20ºC this Sunday.
For minimum temperatures, there will be a decrease in the Mediterranean region, with slight increases in the northwest and stability across the rest of Spain. Areas such as Valladolid, Burgos, León, Soria, and Cuenca will see morning lows around 3ºC, although near-zero temperatures can be expected in the mountainous regions of Serranía de Cuenca and in the higher peaks before potential snowfall.
