Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 25 March (Europa Press) –
The President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, asserted on Tuesday the importance of “institutional loyalty” between the State and the Autonomous Communities to facilitate the implementation of the distribution decree-law regarding migrant minors.
In response to a query from NC-BC, he acknowledged that prior efforts towards solidarity had “failed”, making it crucial to proceed with the execution of this decree from 31 March, by which time the communities will have established their reception network’s capacity and its current level of saturation.
He emphasised that the decree is a notable example of a “significant success of effective policy” and clarified the “collaboration” of the Canary Islands to ensure that the distribution is realised while always prioritising the best interests of the minors.
The NC-BC spokesperson, Luis Campos, remarked that the decree-law represents “excellent news” for migrant minors, the regions that serve as “gateways” to immigration, and the value added by the “policy” in addressing “major issues.”
In this context, he pointed out that the solution “arrives sooner” thanks to the so-called “separatists” rather than the “state parties”, while expressing gratitude for the response from Canarian society, “especially the volunteers” for their “selfless role”, in contrast to those who “questioned” who funded the bibs or “transported migrants in the guaguas” to the Government.
He also recognised the efforts of the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, stating that “without his dedication, this would not have been possible”, as well as the initiative of his party, which encompassed the reform of the Foreigners Law within the ‘Canarian Pact for Immigration’.
