With the proclamation of the celebration, on March 25, the starting signal will be given to the events scheduled to celebrate Holy Week in the municipality, which, finally and after two years without processions and awaiting official confirmation, will return to recover the street where fervor is lived in a very special way in the city, arousing the interest of both residents and visitors who will be able to admire this liturgy full of symbolism.
From the group of Brotherhoods and with the collaboration of the City Council, some events have been planned that will have their epicenter in the week that goes from April 8 to 17 with all the tours of the images that are venerated in the Porto temples. “This year this unique opportunity returns to be able to enjoy the processions through the streets of the city, without a doubt, one more tourist attraction that combines in a natural way with the charm of the streets of the city”, highlighted the mayor, Marco González , who was accompanied in the presentation by the councilors of Tourism Promotion, Roberto Medina, and of Artistic Heritage, Alberto Castilla, as well as the president of the group of Brotherhoods from Porto, Ricardo Richter.
The aforementioned proclamation, which under the title A triple vision: the Brotherhoods in the street, and by Inma Donate, television presenter, Roberto Medina and Father Luis Rodríguez de Lucas, parish priest of the Peña de Francia, will share a triple point of view on the importance of this celebration. In addition, it will have the musical accompaniment of the Municipal School of Music of Puerto de la Cruz. “We want to offer another look that encompasses all the sectors that are not only benefited by the return of this celebration as we knew it, but also what it means for the life of the city since it is an undoubted attraction that adds to those who are already home to our tourist destination,” said Councilman Medina.
This act will be followed on Sunday, March 27, at 7:00 p.m., at the Peña de Francia, by the celebration in honor of Saint John the Evangelist, patron saint of the brotherhoods of Porto, and the traditional awards ceremony, by the Association of Brotherhoods and Brotherhoods, with the final procession of the image of San Juan Evangelista around the Plaza de la Iglesia. “For the Brotherhoods it is a very important year, because we want to resume this public cult that brings the celebration closer to the residents of our city and thus give the highlight that one of the most important Holy Weeks in the Canary Islands deserves, also for the quality of their carvings”, added Richter. Likewise, he valued the work carried out jointly by the Brotherhoods with the Social Media team of the City Council, for the creation of the poster announcing Holy Week in Porto.
As outstanding acts, it is also necessary to underline on Saturday, April 2, at 8:00 p.m., the long-awaited Via Crucis of the Brotherhoods, which, starting and arriving at the Chapel of Calvary, runs through a large sector of the Porto area adorned in purple by the one that is distinguished in this week to the streets of the city.
