Granadilla’s Mayor Accuses Clavijo and Domínguez of Censorship Tactics

“There are no grounds for the motion of censure beyond those who can leverage Fernando Clavio or Manolo Domínguez from Santa Cruz, which Marcos Antonio (the PP councillor) has chosen to adhere to,” summarised the mayor of Granadilla de Abona, the Socialist Jennifer Miranda, while reflecting on the submission of the document by CC, PP and Vox. “There have never been justifications” he asserted repeatedly.

Alongside his governing team, he defended the administration executed over the 18 months of his term by a municipal government that has not been compliant or submissive before those pursuing “personal agendas” and who have utilized Granadilla “as a piece of Change”, even though it is “a municipality mistreated and overlooked by ATI, historically.” “They want to seize our land,” he stated.

Critique of the Candidate

Miranda characterised as “a wasteland” the legacy left in 2023 after seven years of governance under José Domingo Regalado, the candidate for the censors. He reminded everyone that the nationalist has held the position of governor three times without ever winning the Elections to the Government of the Canary Islands and chastised him for the lack of clarity in his stance—both during his tenure as a councillor and currently—on any significant matters that have shaped the political agenda of the municipality over the past decade. He went further to state: “José Domingo Regalado has been selected as the suitable puppet” by Fernando Clavijo and Rosa Dávila “to hinder” the progress of Granadilla de Abona, whose future, with the new local administration, “will be decided from Santa Cruz.”

The sitting mayor disclosed that he received “numerous pressures” regarding storytelling issues like the Vacation Rental Ordinance, the opposition to the establishment of the Hotel de la Tejita, the “strong” opposition to the engine circuit, and support for the taxi sector at the Tenerife South airport, areas where both his views and those of the local government remained counter to the demands of higher authorities.

“This municipal government and I have not been a convenient or submissive government”

Jennifer Miranda

– Mayor of Granadilla de Abona

Commenting on Vox’s involvement in the upcoming coalition that will govern a municipality boasting 115 nationalities and cultures, he mentioned having lost contact with the PP councillor, Manuel Antonio Rodríguez, since Monday 6 – after enjoying chocolates with churros following the approval of this year’s budget – and expressed gratitude to Bianca Cerbán (PP) for honouring the given promise.

The Stance of Bianca Cerbán

Cerbán emphasised that he did not endorse the motion of censure as “there are no grounds,” explaining that he has been unable to converse with his party colleague; he urged the Popular Party and anticipates that the PP will provide “guidance on the actions to take” moving forward, although “the act is mine and I will not relinquish it.”

“In 2027 we have no option but to strive for an absolute majority,” remarked the mayor, Jennifer Miranda.
